⚾ Techies Baseball Part of Statewide “Legacy Project,” Traveling to Memphis Over Spring Break The Purdue Polytechnic Englewood baseball program is taking part in a unique statewide initiative designed to expand opportunities for high school players while building relationships through the game of baseball. The Legacy Project, a partnership between the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA), RoundTripper Sports Academy, Indianapolis RBI, and Indianapolis Public Schools, was created to help grow baseball in urban communities while connecting programs from different backgrounds through shared experiences. Originally inspired by Major League Baseball’s RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) initiative, the Legacy Project focuses on strengthening high school baseball programs, increasing participation, and creating opportunities for student-athletes that go beyond the diamond. Purdue Polytechnic Englewood is one of several schools participating in the current two-year cycle of the project (2025–2027). Throughout the school year, teams have taken part in joint workouts, practices, and team-building opportunities during the fall and winter months. The experience will culminate with a Spring Break trip to Memphis, where the Techies will participate in joint practices, games. The trip will also include opportunities for players to experience college campuses and learn more about baseball opportunities beyond high school. Beyond the competition, the Legacy Project emphasizes building relationships between players from different communities, while reinforcing the importance of academics, teamwork, and the student-athlete model. For Purdue Polytechnic Englewood, the project represents another step in continuing to grow the Techies baseball program while providing student-athletes with experiences that extend far beyond the field. The Memphis trip will serve as the culminating activity for this phase of the Legacy Project, giving Techies players the opportunity to train, compete, and build lasting connections through the game of baseball.
