If the options weren’t slim enough for Coach Crawford and the Techie Girls Basketball team, going into a game against a good Crispus Attucks team without Sophomore Abigail Mason was reason for concern. But then to lose Junior To’Niyah Langston to injury 4 minutes into the game would have caused Techie teams of the past to mail this game in. Not this team. Not this year.
The Techies led most of the game including a 5 point lead going into the 4th quarter. Inspired minutes by players normally coming off the bench had Purdue eyeing a 3-0 start to the season and a good win over the best in IPS. Mersadies Davis, Miracle Ricketts, Damiah Dumas and Kaitlyn Atkinson gave all they had as Attucks continued to rotate their 16 players, keeping key players fresh for the stretch run. In the end the Techies just didn’t have the bodies and as Attucks shifted their whole defensive strategy to keeping the ball out of the hands of Carissa Johnson, the lead and the game slipped out of reach.
The Techies were led by Carissa Johnson with 17 points and 10 rebounds and Junior Daisha Lasley with her best game of the young season with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
